Obituary of Richard F. Harris

Mr. Richard F. Harris, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 20, 2011 at the St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he had been a resident since 2008. Born in Pleasant Brook, NY on November 9, 1925 he was the son of the late Fred and Lila Jackson Harris. A lifelong area resident, Richard worked for the railroad before taking over the family farm. For 31 year he along with his wife Marion, operated Richarion Farms in Currytown, NY. Following retirement, Richard enjoyed helping his son on his farm. He was also an avid woodworker and enjoyed making numerous creations for family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marion Rehurek Harris; his children, Robert R. Harris and his wife Kathleen and Carolyn Crouch and her husband, Donald; three grandchildren, Gretchen Michael Stallbohm , Jessica Harris and David Harris; two great grandchildren, Catherine and William Stallbohm; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard was predeceased by all of his siblings, William Harris, Benjamin Harris, Julia Albright, Eleanor Miller, Madelyn Wright, Gerald Snyder, John Harris and Fred Harris. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 11 o'clock at the Currytown Reformed Church, Rt. 162, Sprakers, NY with Rev. Donald Hoaglander and Rev. Jane Hubschmitt co-officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call one hour prior to the service beginning at 10a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Currytown Reformed Church or to the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter in Richard's memory. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
