Obituary of Betty M. Hands

Betty M. Hands, age 91, of Gloversville passed away on Tuesday February 22, 2011 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. She was born in Gloversville, NY on February 22, 1920 the daughter of the late Fred and Bessie Schrum Chetwynd. On June 21, 1941, Betty married Claude C. Hands. They shared 65 years united in marriage until his passing on September 30, 2006. Betty was a 1940 graduate of Gloversville High School. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and putting together jig-saw puzzles or completing word search puzzles. Betty was a very devoted family woman and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Betty also enjoyed spending time with a few friends that have remained close to one another since school. Betty is survived by her three daughters: Barbara Lee Hayes Jim of Englewood, FL, Linda Jean Harrington John of Sun City West, AZ, Judy Ann Hands of Gloversville, three grandchildren: Scott M. Hayes, Susan J. Manning, Jennifer J. Harrington, four great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Mc Cullough and a brother, Robert Chetwynd. Services for Betty are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. The arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Betty to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Ave, Gloversville, NY 12078.
