Obituary of Alida June Elwood
Alida June Elwood, of Canajoharie went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a brief illness. She was born June 7, 1922 in Midland Park, NJ, the daughter of the late Tunis and Jennie VanderMaas Voorman.
Coming from New Jersey, she has been a resident of the Canajoharie area since 1957. She was a graduate of Ramsey High School in NJ. Alida worked at the Kamp's Bakery in Canajoharie and Petrie's Bakery in Fort Plain. She was a former member of the Town of Root Election board as well as a former communicant of the Currytown Reformed Church. She was married to the late Ellis Elwood on October 28, 1978 their union lasted a blessed 17 years until his passing on January 5, 1995. Alida was a true Christian and devout in her faith, she was a member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church and served as a Deacon for a number of years. Among her many joys in life, Alida especially enjoyed music, square dancing, flowers, gardening and camping. Most of all she loved her family.
She is survived by her children, a daughter Bonnie Kamp of Flat Creek, NY; sons, Kenneth Janice Kamp of Quarryville, PA, Donald Kamp of Flat Creek, NY, James Charlene Kamp of Jordanville, NY, and Gary LaurieKamp also of Flat Creek, NY. Alida is also survived by her brother Dr. Gary Lois Voorman of Orange, CA, and a sister Doris DeWaal-Malefyt of Canajoharie. She is also survived by six grandchildren, seven great grand children, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother James Jean Voorman, as well as her former husband Conrad Kamp.
Funeral Services for Alida will be on March 12, 2011 at 12 O'Clock at the Fort Plain Reformed Church; Rev. Nancy Ryan will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 10 AM until 12PM before the service at the church. Burial will take place in the spring at the Fort Plain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or the Fort Plain Reformed Church in care of the funeral home office.
