Obituary of William Sing

Mr. William Sing, 87, of Brown Street, Amsterdam, NY died peacefully on Sunday, March 6, 2011 following a long illness with his family by his side. Born on January 14, 1924 in Amsterdam, NY he was the only son of the late William and Dorothy Bundy Sing. A lifelong area resident, Bill was a 1942 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. In 1943 he enlisted with the United States Marine Corps. and was assigned to the 1st Marine Division; which fought in the Battle of Peliliu and Okinawa. During that time he also had the opportunity to attend Texas A&M University. In 1946 he was honorably discharged, and upon his return to Amsterdam he also attended Siena College. Bill later was employed as a Bricklayer with the local union for many years. He was also influential in starting the first local union in Amsterdam and was a past president. Bill enjoyed life to the fullest extent. He was a former member of the Kenyetto Masonic Lodge and the Ridge Runners Hunting Club as well as the Amsterdam Municipal Golf Course. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and traveling to all parts of the world. He especially loved his time in Florida at his home in Vero Beach during the winter months. Above all he believed in sharing his love with his family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Constance "Connie" Sadowski Sing, whom he married on January 27, 1968; two daughters, Deborah Seward and her husband David and Linda Amberger and her husband Robert all of Gloversville, NY; three grandchildren, Michele Russo, Roger Seward and Jeffrey Seward; one special cousin, Louis Kern of Amsterdam, NY; and several other cousins. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 11 o'clock at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Dr. John Califano presiding. Interment will take place at a later date in Fairview Cemetery with military honors. Calling hours are Tuesday, March 8, 2011 from 5 until 7p.m. In lieu of flowers, Bill requested donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, GAVAC or the charity of one's choice in care of the funeral home office.
