Obituary of Eleanor P. Hanrahan
Eleanor P. Hanrahan, 84, of Mohawk Drive, Tribes Hill, NY, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning March 6, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital. Her daughter and grandchildren were at her side.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on August 26, 1926 a daughter of the late George and Helen Kulakowski Paton. She was a lifelong resident of the area and attended local schools. For over forty five years, she was a fixture in Tribes Hill where she and her late husband operated Eleanor's Suburban Market. Throughout her long career, she served and made friends with several generations that passed through the store's doors. Always community minded, she was awarded a plaque from the Tribes Hill Volunteer Fire Department for her devoted and invaluable service to the department.
Eleanor was a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Tribes Hill.
She married Ellwood F. Hanrahan on November 16, 1947 at St. Cecilia's Rectory in Fonda. They were married for twenty six years until his untimely death on January 8, 1974. Her loving family includes her children; William David Sompit Hanrahan of Tribes Hill, James Dennis Patricia Hanrahan of Florida, Michael Douglas and Patrick Dean Hanrahan both of Tribes Hill, and Helen Sue David Trasky of Fonda; brothers; John Alice Paton of Tribes Hill, George Judith Paton of Fultonville, and Edward Betsy Paton of Tribes Hill. She was the best grandma to her dear ten grandchildren and great grandma to five. In her later years, Eleanor loved to spend time with them and baby sit. Nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, she lost her sisters; Marie Paton, Elizabeth Tretola and Ruth Cronkhite and a brother William Paton whose wife Kay lives in Amsterdam.
Services are Thursday at 9:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, Tribes Hill. Fr. Patrick Gallagher OFM Conv. presiding. Spring interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday March 9, 2011 from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Montgomery County Office For Aging in care of the funeral home office.
