Obituary of John A. Maylunas

John A. Maylunas, 93, of Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday March 8, 2011 at the River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam. Born in Hagaman, NY on April 2, 1917 a son of the late Benjamin and Alice Luksis Meilunas. He was a lifelong resident of the Amsterdam area and attended local schools. Mr. Maylunas was a Chief Warrant Officer with the U.S. Army serving in Europe, Hawaii and Korea. He served in the Army for over 23 years retiring in 1950. He later went to work for the U.S. Navy Depot in Scotia and then the VA Medical Center in Albany as the Supervisor of Records retiring in 1972. He married the former Margaret Hesslink who passed away in 2005. Survivors include one son John H. Maylunas of Tualatin, OR. A Committal Service will be held with full military honors at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY on Wednesday April 20, 2011 at 11:00A.M. Inurnment will take place in a columbarium wall at the cemetery. There are no calling hours.
