Obituary of Dianna T. Ashelman

Mrs. Dianna T. "Dee" Ashelman, age 70, died Wednesday evening, March 16, 2011 at Nathan Littauer Hospital after she was suddenly stricken at her home in Gloversville. She was born February 28, 1941 in Manhattan, the daughter of Kenneth Lemmey and the late Mary Brennan Lemmey. She was later raised in the Rochester area and graduated from Catholic high school there. She married Charles R. Ashelman, Sr. on July 4, 1959. They came to Gloversville from the Rochester area in 1971. Dee was employed by Family Practice of Gloversville for 18 years where she retired several years ago as office manager. She was an active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit where she was a Eucharistic Minister; she was also a BINGO worker and a member of the decorating committee, the Social Spirits group and at the time of her death was financial secretary of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit. She loved to work in her garden, but her family was her favorite interest. Survivors include: her husband of 51 years, Charles R. Ashelman, Sr. of Gloversville; two children, Charles R. Ashelman, Jr. Christina of Sharon Springs and Sandra D. Chupka Peter of Mayfield; her father, Kenneth Lemmey of Macedonia, OH; a brother and two sisters, Harry Lemmey Terry, Colleen Mackin and Noel Harwood Jim , all of Ohio; seven grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Dee was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Lemmey, Jr. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 18 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
