Babs,
Please accept my condolences. Your sister, Joyce, was a wonderful person and a dear friend during our years together in Northville, as well as into our retirement years.
I will always remember her quick wit, easy laugh, and our many "Last Day of School" lunches at The Raindancer with our little band of six.
Joyce and I shared a love for the music of Cole Porter, and the Gershwins, just to name a few.
Joyce will be very much missed by many whose life paths crossed hers. The world is sadder for Joyce's passing.

My Mom, Betty Green, spoke highly of Joyce. They both shared the joy of teaching and the gift of music. Mom, passed in Feb,2011. I'm sure there are four hands on a piano playing for the glory of God. May you find comfort that there is peace for them and us.

I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Mrs. Ashlaw's passing. She was my piano teacher for 6 years and was a kind, compassionate and patient teacher. She taught me that music is far more than notes on a page and a perfect recital number. She was immensely talented and gifted and will be truly missed.

I'm proud to say that Joyce was my teacher. She taught me for 10 years of my childhood, and continued to offer advice, support and guidance in later years. My knowledge and love of music is thanks to her. I will never forget her kindness and extraordinary ability to teach. She will be greatly missed.

I'm so sad to hear about the loss of Mrs. Ashlaw. She taught me piano for 8 years before I went on to study music education and performance in college. I currently have my BA in music ed and have my own piano studio out of my home. I owe it all to her. She was enourmously talented and I will always remember her singing along to the songs as I played. Also her cat Melody jumping on the piano, and sneaking a chocolate candy in before my lesson started. Thanks for the wonderful memories. You will be missed!

Joyce was my middle school music teacher, NYSSMA accompanist, and has been a family friend as well as one of the first piano students my grandma Helen Russell ever had. I can remember Joyce accompanying my family when we sang for my grandparents 50th wedding celebration. I will always connect her with my love of "West Side Story" as she was so passionate about the music and choreography! My sympathy to all family and friends. Erin Barnett Weaver

I am so very sorry to hear about this. Mrs. Ashlaw was my piano teacher throughout elementary and high school. She was a fantastic teacher - I always loved when she would take over and play what I was supposed to be playing. Her love of music helped me to appreciate and love music. I am forever grateful for everything she taught me. She will be greatly missed.

My heart is heavy at the passing of "Joycie", my wonderful cousin, piano teacher, and friend. I will miss her each day, however, she can be sure I will continue to play the piano, as each time it will remind me of her and her lessons of "perfection". For Joyce to start teaching me as an adult of "mature" age was so very much appreciated. Her confidence in me to be able to "learn to play" was always present. My love to the family, especially "Babs" whom I know will miss Joyce dearly, as they are the closest sisters I have known. May "Joycie" rest now and enjoy being with Greg.

Dear Aunt Joyce,
I miss you as does our whole family. Your beautiful smile and infectious laugh I will hold in my heart always. I have wonderful memories of you, Uncle Greg and Jimmy that will never fade; you leading the family in song at the piano, taking me to SPAC to hear the orchestra, you & Jimmy trying to teach me to water ski, visits & sleepovers at Pine Lake, Uncle Greg with a pup underarm or on his lap. I believe Love transcends earthly bonds and so I take comfort in Knowing you are hearing this as I write it. All my Love, Kathy
