Obituary of Jane V. Snell Stowitts

Jane V. Snell Stowitts, 91, passed away peacefully Monday evening at the Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown with her loving family at her side. Born in Gloversville on June 5, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Ruth Button Vermilyea. A graduate of Gloversville High School, she lived in Fonda for many years. She worked for Templeton Gloves in Fonda and later Kasson & Keller. Jane was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 942 in Fonda and for over forty years was a member of the Hillbillies Card Club. She loved to knit and spend time with family and dear friends. Jane had resided at the Kingsboro Towers in Gloversville prior to her admission to Wells. In 1945 she married Leon Snell. He passed away in 1977. On July 3, 1988, she was married to Philip Stowitts who also predeceased her. Her loving family includes her daughters; Gail Robert Hanchar of Charlton, and Marsha Richard Coonradt of Cohoes; grandchildren; Tracy, Greg, Richard and Jennifer; nine great grandchildren; a sister; Eleanor Gifford of Gloversville; her dear companion Harry Stack of Gloversville and nieces and nephews. A brother George Vermilyea and a sister Rose Evans also predeceased Jane. A service to celebrate her life will be Thursday at 11:00 am at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street Fultonville. Pastor Bruce Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sandflats, Fonda. A calling hour will commence Thursday at 10:00 am prior to the service. Contributions may be made in her name to the Wells Nursing Home Activities Fund in care of the funeral home office.
