Obituary of Myrtle Anita Cook Ault
Myrtle Anita Mickey Cook Ault S.F.O., 87, passed away Wednesday morning at the Palatine Nursing Home where she was in failing health for the past several years. She went home to be with the Lord.
She was born on June 29, 1923 in the Town of Glen, New York and she was the daughter of the late Frank M. and Olive McConchie Cook. She was a graduate of the Johnstown High School.
Mrs. Ault worked for the Johnstown Knitting Mill and later for the Fonda - Fultonville Central School.
She is survived by a son Andrew J. Ault III of Fonda; a daughter, Nancy; a granddaughter Tonya; two sisters, Kathleen Teller of Fultonville and Marilyn Smith of Fonda; many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ault was predeceased by her sisters, Juanita Podmajersky, Barbara Jones and Frances B. Owens; and her care giving son-in-law, Raymond St.Clair.
Mrs. Ault was very active in church activities, fire auxiliaries and community affairs for 40 years, with the Town of Mohawk Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, serving 5 years as president and 30 years as treasurer. She was a member of the Montgomery County Fireman's Association Ladies Auxiliary for over 50 years, and has been president and held the office of treasurer for 35 years. She was elected to the Town of Mohawk Fire District Commissioners as treasurer and held that office for 25 years. For 15 years she was a member of the Capital District Volunteer Fireman's Commissioners as well as on the Board of Directors for Montgomery County for the Association. She has also been on the NYS Volunteer Fire Commission for 15 years. Mrs. Ault was also a 26 year member of the Ladies Auxiliary Fireman's Association State of New York and a delegate for the Montgomery County Fireman's Association Ladies Auxiliary there.
Mrs. Ault was a charter member of Catholic Daughters Court # 1748 of St. Cecilia's Church and St. Cecilia's Altar Rosary Society. She held offices of president and treasurer and received a plaque for outstanding service. She was a member and chairperson for St. Cecilia's Guild. She was a charter member of St. Thomas More Fraternity and held the office of treasurer.
Mrs. Ault was a Sunday School teacher for over 20 years. She was a charter member of the Church's Parish Council for 12 years and a chairperson of the Bishop's Development Fund for 18 years for the church.
Mrs. Ault was co-chairman of the Memorial Day parade in Fonda for 10 years. Also a Girl Scout leader for many years. Mrs. Ault was also a charter member of the Montgomery County Deputy Sheriff Auxiliary and a charter member of Blessed Kateri Tekahwitha Regional Fraternity, Secular Franciscan Order.
A prayer service will be held Saturday morning, March 26, 2011 at 9:00 am at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am at St. Cecilia's Roman Catholic Church, 26 Broadway, Fonda, NY with the Fr. Patrick Gallagher OFM CONV as celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Cecilia's cemetery in Fonda. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4 to 7 pm at the funeral home. The St. Thomas More Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order and the Altar Rosary Society will meet at 6:00 pm on Friday to conduct a service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Ault's memory to the St. Cecilia's Church or the Town of Mohawk Fire Department.
