Obituary of Richard S. Bruce
Mr. Richard S. Bruce, 54 of Johnstown, passed away at home on Sunday, March 27, 2011. He was born September 15, 1956 in Bittburg, Germany, son of Marie Jancovich Bruce of Gloversville, and the late Donald Bruce. He was educated in Gloversville schools and employed as a chef for many years at the former Milt Schaber's Deli, and at the Holiday Inn. He most recently had worked as a tanner at Simco Leather in Johnstown.
An avid outdoorsman, he especially liked hiking and the Canajoharie Gorge was his favorite place. His passion was landscaping and collecting unusual and interesting objects. He would incorporate various finds including marbles, rocks and discarded objects that he would blend into the landscaping, creating beauty and enjoyment for so many.
A loving and caring man, he always enjoyed his grandchildren and was well respected by friends and co-workers. Richard will be sadly missed. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Mary Peck Bruce of Johnstown, whom he married February 14, 1998. He is also survived by a son Donald Bruce of Johnstown a step-son Joel Wasson of Johnstown and a step-daughter Ginger Romaine of Gloversville. Richard also leaves two sisters; Marie Sissiro of Gloversville and Martha Smullens of Caroga Lake, three brothers; Michael Bruce of Caroga Lake, Robert Bruce of Florida and Leo Bruce of Georgia. He also has four grandchildren several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2 pm Saturday April 2, 2011 at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville, with Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12 noon to 2 pm prior to the service.
