Obituary of Marilyn A. Gillis

Marilyn A. Gillis, 78, of Old Trail Road, passed away Monday evening at Ellis Hospital. Born in Lake Pleasant, NY on April 12, 1932, she was the last surviving child of Albert and Marion Lawrence Aird. She moved to this area nearly forty years ago. Marilyn worked as a waitress for a number of restaurants , more recently at Stankes? Community Pharmacy on East Main Street. She truly enjoyed her time there because of the many wonderful people she was able to meet , and who became dear friends with her. She and her husband Bob enjoyed travelling and spending time with family. An avid reader, Marilyn also loved to bake and crochet and watch the many birds that flocked to her garden feeders. She was of the Roman Catholic faith. Always with a smile, she will be remembered by the words, ?grieve not, nor speak of me with tears, but laugh as though I were beside you? I loved you so, t ?was heaven here with you!? Her loving family includes her husband, Robert P. Gillis whom she married June 7, 1974; sons; William Shari Babcock of Wells, and John W. Babcock of Speculator; step daughters; Dawn Marie Charles Smullen and Susan Ann Anthony Verde all of Amsterdam; step-son; Christopher Janey Gillis of Virginia; 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, Marilyn was predeceased by her daughters, Janice Thomas, and Jeanne M. Babcock, and a son, James Marshall. A prayer service will take place Thursday at 12 noon at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Fr. O. Robert DeMartinis officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. A calling period will begin Thursday at 10:00 am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to Community Hospice Of Amsterdam in care of the funeral home office.
