My thoughts are with the family of Rachel DiGennaro. As my third grade teacher at Arnold Avenue School, she quickly became one of my favorites. Especially when she chose me to be Mary in our Christmas play. Gentle in voice and manner, I thought she was one of the most beautiful teachers I had even seen. She was.

The sisters of Alpha Kappa Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, honor the life and memory of our charter member Rachel. Her legacy will continue in the multitudes of young lives she touched and shaped. She embodied all that any woman educator should aspire to be. We mourn her passing, but rejoice that she is now singing in the choir eternal.

I'm 68 years old and Rachel DiGennaro was my third grade teacher at Arnold Avenue School. I moved from Northville Ny and Miss DiGennaro helped me adjust to my new class and school. On the day I entered her class they were going to Nadlers Brothers Dairy farm on a field trip so she sent someone to my home to get permission for me to go. She was a wonderful teacher and lady.

She was my school principal throughout the elementary years, at Arnold Avenue and McNulty schools. She was a big part of our educational development. No one who ever met her could ever forget her!

What a legacy she leaves. I can still remember the welcome she gave me in 1945 when I walked into her 3rd grade class at Arnold Ave.

I am a 72 year old former student of Miss DiGennaro's. She was the first teacher I ever had after our family moved to Amsterdam and I was enrolled at Arnold Avenue. I have never forgotten how wonderful and kind she was to a "new kid in town". I've always thought she was beautiful, inside and out. God bless you, her family, and rest in peace, Miss D.

I am a 55 year old student of Miss DiGennaro's, and I'd like to extend my condolences to her family. I was fortunate to have had her as my principal at Arnold Avenue, as well as at McNaulty. I have very fond memories of her and have shared some touching stories about her to my students, in particular the loving way she celebrated each child's birthday. She would call them into her office and have a special moment with them, apart from the hustle and bustle of the school day. She will be fondly remembered by many.

To Rachels Family,
I am one of Rachels former students from the R.J.McNulty School. I am very saddened to learn of her passing. She was a great Principal, a talented educator. She was firm, fair and a great inspiration she loved her job and her students very much. I have had the pleasure of staying in contact with her all of my adult life & am so glad that I have. She was a accomplished musician & vocalist as well. I feel so honored that I had the pleasure of meeting her in this life. I know that she is now directing the choir of angels in heaven & singing praises to our God. To a dear Friend, rest in peace you will be missed. With deepest condoloence...I will never forget you......
