Obituary of Sophie DeFeo Tambasco
Mrs. Sophie DeFeo Tambasco, 91, formerly of Chapel Place, passed away peacefully Thursday morning April 7, 2011 at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam., with her loving family at her side.
Born in Amsterdam, NY, on July 24, 1919, a daughter of Vito and Anella DiBlasi DeFeo. A lifelong Amsterdam resident.
Sophie worked for many years in her husband's family business, Guiffrie's Market in Amsterdam which they owned and operated for many years before their retirement.
She was a communicant of the former St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church and St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She was a member of the St. Michael's Altar Rosary Society, the Santa Sofia Society of St. Michael's Church, the St. Mary's Seniors, the St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary and the Columbiette's.
On August 29, 1943 she was married to Frank P. Tambasco who passed away on November 2, 2009. Sophie leaves behind her loving sons; Lorenzo "Larry" Tambasco of Dallas, Texas, and Frank Jo-Ann Tambasco of Clifton Park; grandchildren; Jennifer and Andrew Tambasco; sisters; Grace Palombi Alfred of Amsterdam and Jennie Riccio Carmen of Amsterdam.; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. She was predeceased by her brother and sisters, Rose Sagarese, Dora Marotta, Joseph DeFeo and Josephine Palombi. Brother's and Sister-in-law, Michael Sagarese, John Palombi, and Dorothy DeFeo.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday April 11, 2011 at 10:00A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, East Main St., with Father John Medwid as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday April 10, 2011 from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam or to the Alzheimer's Association, both in care of the funeral home office. Sophie's family would like to thank the second floor nurses and aides at the E.L. Wilkinson RHCF for all of their kindness, compassion and care during the time Sophie was there.
