Obituary of Winifred J. Tremante
Mrs. Winifred J. Tremante, age 81, formerly of Gloversville, died Saturday, April 9, 2011 in Longmont, Colorado.
She was born March 3, 1930 in Fonda, the daughter of the late Ernest Duesler and Rosina Morey Duesler. A 1948 graduate of Johnstown High School, she later received her nurse training at St. Mary's Hospital Nursing School in Amsterdam. She was a 1961 graduate of Nathan Littauer Hospital School of Nursing and also attended St. Rose College in Albany. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Nathan Littauer Hospital and Johnstown Hospital. In 1961 she became Office Manager and Nurse Assistant to Dr. Louis Tremante until his death in 1998.
A long time active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, she was a member and past president of its Women's Society. She was also past president of the Parish Council and the former Mount Carmel School. Her other memberships in the church included the Liturgy Team and Bereavement Committee as well as acting as a Eucharistic Minister to the homebound and Catholic patients at Nathan Littauer Hospital. She worked with and was chairman of the Interfaith Tea Committee and was chairman of the Bishop's Appeal Committee.
Winnie was a member of the Nathan Littauer Hospital Nurses Alumni Association and the New York State Nurses Association. She served on the Board of Catholic Charities in Johnstown for three years. She was a 1982 founder and past president of Ladies of Charity, Fulton County Vicariate, which is a branch of the Albany Ladies of Charity.
Mrs. Tremante was married to Dr. Louis Tremante on February 12, 1962. He died December 15, 1998. Survivors include: three children, Everett Genser, Jr. Kathy of Moira, NY and Marie Ann Genser and Antoinette J. Mowrey Tim of Longmont, CO; four step-children, Natalie Kauffman Roger of Morristown, NJ; Louis Tremante, Jr. Maureen of Long Island, Linda Tremante of Albany and Stanley Michael Tremante of Scotia; a brother, Theodore Duesler Barbara of Cherry Valley; two sisters, Marie VanDusen of Johnstown and Helene VanAlstyne of Fultonville; 18 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted 9:15 a.m. Friday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Gloversville. The Very Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville, NY 12078.
