Obituary of Elsie B. Nowak

Mrs. Elsie B. Nowak, 80 years old, of Stinson Avenue, died Wednesday at Mt. Loretto Nursing Home. She was born October 25, 1930 in Ft. Johnson, NY a daughter of Walter D. and Dorothy E. Hare Thompson. Elsie was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam and of the former Amsterdam School of Commerce. She resided in Michigan for five years and in Albany, NY for seven years before moving to Tribes Hill. Elsie had been employed as a bookkeeper for the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mill of Amsterdam. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Tribes Hill and a member of its Rosary Society. Elsie's life was centered around her family. She loved the outdoors, especially boating. Elsie married William A. Nowak on October 5, 1952. He died November 14, 2007. Elsie is survived by two sons: Mark Nowak and companion Lisa Butterfield of Tribes Hill and James Nowak and wife Karen of Jacksonville, Florida, three daughters: Elizabeth Tybor of Missouri, Laura Lee Nowak of Jacksonville Florida and Judith Ann Califano and husband Don of Albany, her brother: Lauren Thompson of Sidney, one sister: Norma Morrell, 7 grandchildren: Kassi, Kyra, Melissa, Tracy, Paula, Roberta, and Nicholas, 7 great grandchildren: Emily, Joe Jr., Skyler, Leighton, Anthony, Aimeleigh and Haleigh, one aunt, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Thelma Rose Wawrzonek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 am Monday, April 18, 2011, at Sacred Heart Church in Tribes Hill. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, from 4 until 7:00pm.
