Obituary of Melva D. Rose
Mrs. Melva D. Rose, 81, of State Highway 30 South, Scotch Bush, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family. Born on December 5, 1929 to Raymond and Leona Sager Rector, she attended local schools and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
On October 14, 1950 she was united in marriage to Landon Wilson Rose of Troy, Alabama. Sadly, that union lasted only 10 years until his passing in October of 1960. She was also predeceased by her son, Daniel B. Rose on March 13, 2003.
Following the death of her husband, she purchased, owned and operated Melva's, or "The Store", in Minaville for many years. She then went on to work for Mary & Belle's Floral Shop until her retirement. Looking for something to do in her spare time, she took on the job as an aide for Paul Neznek, Inc. and later Brown's Transportation.
A woman of great faith and community, Melva was a member of the Florida Reformed Church and the Labora Club for many years. Her work ethic and determination allowed her to accomplish anything she set out to achieve. She loved her home and her property and took great pride in it. She especially enjoyed Spring and will always be remembered for her love of nature and flowers, and for baking her famous chocolate jumble cookies. Above all she loved her family and her friends dearly. She was a "grandmother" to so many during her lifetime. Later in life her favorite pastime was chatting with friends and family and sharing photos on facebook. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her loving family includes her son, David B. Rose and his wife Mary Jo of Earlville, NY; three grandchildren, Peter J. Rose and his wife Mary Shea of Canajoharie, NY, Emily S. Rose of Troy, NY and Wilson P. Rose of Rochester, NY; two great grandchildren, Taryn McKeon and Jack Landon Rose; one sister, Nettie Lenz and her husband Albert of Minaville, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday April 16, 2011 at 9:30A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Chuck Hesselink presiding. Interment will follow in the Chuctanunda Cemetery, Minaville, NY where she will be laid to rest under the chestnut tree.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday April 15, 2011 from 5 until 7pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Florida Reformed Church in care of the funeral home office.
