Obituary of Sofia Marotta DeLuca
Sofia DeLuca, 61 of Stella Lane in Amsterdam passed away unexpectedly on April 17, 2011. She was born on February 10, 1950, the daughter of Domenico and Teresa Guida Marotta in Celle di Bulgheria, Salerno, Italy.
Sofia was born and raised in Italy, she married Vincent DeLuca on September 23, 1972 and soon after their union they moved to Amsterdam to begin their life together. They shared a beautiful thirty eight years of marriage. After moving to Amsterdam she worked as a glove maker at Breton Industries. She was a former member of the St. Sofia Society. Most importantly she was a proud mother of three loving daughters, a devoted wife and care taker to her family and in the most recent years a beloved grand mother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking the wonderful meals she was known for. Sofia also enjoyed gardening and flowers. She is of the Roman Catholic faith and a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her loving family includes her husband Vincent DeLuca, her mother Teresa Guida of Italy, her daughters Maria Teresa DeLuca of Amsterdam, Christina John Davey of Fort Johnson, and Daniella Joseph Murphy of Amsterdam; grandchildren Vincent Murphy, Giavanna and Lucas Davey. She is also survived by brothers Pasquale Lia Marotta and Giovanni Marotta both of Naples, Italy; brother in laws, Mike Carmie DeLuca, Frank Rosa DeLuca, John Mary DeLuca, Domenico DeLuca and Neil Nicole DeLuca. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sofia is predeceased by her father, Domenico Marotta, grand daughter Milena Murphy and a brother in law Joseph DeLuca.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 11:15 AM at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Amsterdam . Fr. Lawrence Decker, celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Michael?s Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to visit Tuesday April 19, 2011 from 4 until 7 PM at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue in Amsterdam. Memorial contributions in Sofia ?s memory may be made to the St. Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital in care of the funeral home office.
