Obituary of Donald Scott Atty
Mr. Donald Scott Atty, 67, of Johnstown, died Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after many years of ill health.
He was born July 22, 1943 in Gloversville, son of the late Scott A. and Esther B. Spencer Atty. Don graduated from Mayfield High School Class of 1961. He attended Oswego State College. After school Don worked as a logger with his father. He also worked for a period of time at F.D. Peters toy factory in Gloversville. From there he enlisted in the G.E. Apprentice Course. After 31 years of service he was down-sized by the company along with 500 other employees. These men were short-changed in their social security and pension funds by G.E. and also in their pride of workmanship.
Don enjoyed his family of dogs and cats and especially "the girls" Pet Pigs. He was an avid New York Yankees fan. Before his illness he enjoyed the outdoor life.
In 1968 he married Bettelyn Cole who survives. He is also survived by: a sister, Patricia Dambrosi; a nephew, William Dambrosi; five nieces, Tammy Lee Wilson, Tracy Lee Chamberlain, Laurie Moore, Lisa Proper and Linda Ogden. Another niece and nephew, Marjorie Schwankoff and Daniel Collis, reside in Largo, FL. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Lorena Atty Dutcher Louis, Donna Lee John, and Janice Collis David of Largo, FL. Several grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins also survive.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Russell L. Atty, Sr. and nephew, Russell L. Atty, Jr. and aunts and uncles.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Dr. R. W. Williams officiating. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville or to James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078.
