Obituary of Edward F. Jennings
Former Amsterdam resident, Edward F. Jennings passed away peacefully Friday, April 29, 2011, in Galway, NY at the home of his niece Joan Maxson.
The son of Robert Michael and Mary Elizabeth Huberdeau Jennings, he was born at home in Amsterdam, NY on February 16, 1919. He grew up on the family dairy farm in Glen, NY and graduated from Fultonville High School.
He was a proud veteran, who served as a Merchant Marine in the Pacific during WWII.
For many years Ed was a member of the Operating Engineers, working on dredging projects in the Atlantic Ocean, the Great Lakes and throughout the Eastern Seaboard.
He later worked as a machinist for General Electric and retired in 1984. Ed was also a 22 year member of the American Legion Post 701 in Amsterdam.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, his sisters Mary Jennings and Margaret Lathers, his brother Thomas Jennings, his step-brother William Jennings and his nephew William Lathers III.
He is survived by his sons, Timothy Jennings Susan of Rochester, Edward Dennis Jennings of Denver, CO.; his daughters, Patricia DeVarennes Bruce of Northville, Gail VanAuken Timothy of Caroga Lake, Elise Lathery Greg of Panama City, FL. and 6 grand-children, Timothy and Nicholas VanAuken, Kristen Jennings, Katherine, Taylor and Elysse Lathery.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law Kathryn Jennings and his beloved nieces and nephews, Mary Nordby, Kathleen Francisco Warren, Eileen Miller Richard, Thomas Jennings Toni, Jeanne Denero Richard, Michael Jennings Shawn, Joan Maxson Michael, Carol Cromer Ron, Robert Ann and Timothy Aguilera, Dana Greenfield, Wiltsie Finch; and his grand-niece and buddy, Katie Maxson.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit Today, May 3, 2011, from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville. American Legion Post 701 will be conducting a service at 6PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 A.M. on Wednesday at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, 26 Broadway, Fonda, NY. Fr. Patrick Gallagher OFM Conv. will officiate. Followed by interment at the Evergreen Cemetery, 296 Martin Road, Fonda, NY. In lieu of flowers, memory contributions may be made in care of the funeral home office to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or Hospice of Saratoga County.
