Obituary of James J. Majewski
James J. "Jimmy" Majewski, 75, of Kline Street, passed away peacefully early Friday morning at the Samuel Stratton Veteran's Medical Center in Albany.
Born in Amsterdam on April 27, 1936, he was the son of the late Alfred and Agnes Draus Myers. A 1954 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, he lived here his entire life. Upon graduation he entered the US Marine Corps. And was honorably discharged with the rank of PFC. Jimmy drove for Quandts for a time and later worked thirty years for the General Electric Company as a machine operator, retiring in 1998. An avid fisherman and hunter, he loved the outdoors and was a member of the Reid Hill Fish And Game Club and past president of the former St. John's Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed being and talking with family and friends , playing cards and going to the casino. If anyone needed a helping hand, Jimmy was first to offer his assistance.
His wife, the former Mildred "Mickey" Nethaway predeceased him on December 13, 2006.
He leaves his son Mark Majewski of Amsterdam and daughter Anita Lewandowski of Fort Hunter ; he was a wonderful grandpa to Cheyenne and Cody Lewandowski; brother to Patricia Dan Kopec and Phyllis "Che Che" William "Turk" Murphy all of Amsterdam; brothers and sisters in law; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and grandpuppy Corky also survive.
A graveside service will take place Sunday May 15th at 1:00 pm at the Hagaman Cemetery with his cousin deacon Mike Ryba officiating. Military honors will follow. It was Jimmy's request that there be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Fort Hunter Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home office. His family has entrusted Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue with his care.
