Obituary of Virgil W. Tallmadge
Virgil W. Tallmadge, 70, of Valley View Drive, Auriesville, passed away Saturday evening at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady with his loving family at his side.
He was born August 30, 1940 in Ryders Corners of Town of Charleston, New York and was the son of the late Percy and Anna Sellick Tallmadge Sr..
Virgil attended Fonda and Fultonville schools and at the age of 18 purchased his first dairy farm. Through dedication and hard work, he expanded his dairy business and eventually formed the Auries Creek Farm of Auriesville, which he ran until his retirement. In addition to his commitment to the farm, he instilled in his family the values of strong ethics, dedication and love that his parents taught him.
In his early years, Virgil enjoyed hot rod cars, snowmobiling, playing pitch, and square dancing. In his own uniquely quiet yet delightfully humorous way, he loved spending time with his family. His wit, tolerance, patience, and stoicism will be greatly missed by his family.
On September 1, 1974 he married the former Sharon Ogden Richardson. Besides his wife he is survived by one son, William Murphy, three step-sons, Jeff Richardson Kimberly of Orange Park, FL, Steven Richardson of Fultonville and Robert Richardson Tammy of Hagaman; three daughters, Debbie Bogdan, JoAnn Murphy, and Dr. Rebecca Tallmadge Ingram Jason of Freeville, NY; two step-daughters, Jill Richardson of Johnstown and Suzanne Richardson of Glen; a brother Percy "Jim" Tallmadge Jr. Harriett of Glen; three sisters Evelyn Grandy Charles of Canajoharie, Margaret Newkirk of Tribes Hill and Janet Sievert William of the Town of Amsterdam; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Virgil was predeceased by a sister Thelma Lampkin.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May12, 2011, at 12 noon at the Glen Reformed Church, Route 161 in Glen, NY with the Rev. Tim Alicki officiating. Cremation will follow at Vale Crematory in Schenectady.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family c/o the funeral home.
