Obituary of Alice A. Collins

Mrs. Alice A. Collins, 81, formerly of Carmen Court, Palatine Bridge, NY entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at the Palatine Nursing Home, where she was a resident for the past eight months. Born on January 14, 1930 in Herkimer, NY she was the youngest of six daughters to Charles and Grace Curtain Vonder Born. In 1948 she graduated from Fort Plain High School and then went on to receive a certificate from the famous Artist Art School in Westport, CT. Alice worked for Upstate Telephone Company in Canajoharie. She also worked for a time at the Ames Department Store and lastly she was a teacher's aide for Canajoharie Central. Alice was a former member of St. James' R.C. Church in Fort Plain where she was a member of the choir and the Altar Rosary Society. Above all she loved her family and enjoyed being with them. She will be remembered for her pastel portraits of fine artwork. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Elliott S. Collins, whom she married on June 18, 1955; her two children, Dennis Collins of Gloversville, NY and Rosemary Collins Horning of Palatine Bridge, NY; five grandchildren, James Collins and Mary Ellen Collins of Lake George, NY, Melissa Collins of Palatine Bridge, NY, Elisha Rose Horning and Vaughn Horning of VA Beach, VA; one great grandson, Toby Ryan Horning; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her five sisters, Elizabeth Conrad, Lucille Bartlett, Ann Touhy, Ellen Post and Rose Baeurle. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Nurses and Staff of Palatine Bridge Nursing Home for their excellent care and compassion toward Alice in her final days. A Graveside Service of Remembrance will take place at the convenience of the family. In accordance to her wishes, there will be no callings hours.
