Obituary of Ronald N. Husted

Ronald N. Husted, 74, of West Main Street, passed away suddenly Sunday morning at St. Mary's Hospital. Born in Amsterdam on December 30, 1936, he was the son of the late Elwood and Marguerite Taber Husted and was a lifelong resident. In his youth, he played baseball and was a member of the Little Bigger League. In 1956 he entered the US Army and served as private first class with the 10th Mountain Division. He worked for GE for a time and later for over twenty five years for the Greater Amsterdam School District as a driver and in the maintenance department before retiring in 1999. An avid sportsman, Ron bowled with the Men's Classic League, golfed in the Mixed League and played bocce with the Port Jackson Bocce and Mixed teams. He was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 American Legion. He and his beloved companion of many years, Sophie Fariello, enjoyed wintering in Hollywood Florida. In addition to Sophie Fariello of Amsterdam, Ron leaves his sons; Kevin D. Deborah Husted of Fairport, NY, Rick Lisa Husted of Amsterdam and Mark J. Stephanie Husted of Martinsville, NJ; grandchildren; Megan and Alyssa Husted, Jennifer Catucci, and Andrea and Katherine Husted; great granddaughter Ashleigh Catucci; sisters; Marlene Robert Gargiulo of Amsterdam and Shirley Robert Markert of Perth; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeased by one brother Robert Husted. A prayer service will take place Thursday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Fr. John Medwid, officiating. Interment will follow with military honors in the Hagaman Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home where the member of Post 701 will gather to honor their brother Ron at 6 pm. Contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or the American Heart Association both in care of the funeral home office.
