Obituary of Carl L. Reid
Mr. Carl L. Reid, age 72, died unexpectedly at his home in Gloversville on Sunday, May 8, 2011.
He was born in Syracuse, NY on October 12, 1938, the son of the late James Reid and Carrie Horning Reid. He worked for a time at an onion factory, at Howard Johnson's and as a custodian for 23 years at Syracuse University.
In 1996 Carl and his father moved from Syracuse to Gloversville where he became active at the Lexington Center. He was especially fond of its recreation department where he enjoyed dancing, bowling, arts and crafts and Explorer Scouts. He was proud of his activities in the Special Olympics. He was at Lexington nearly every day until his unexpected death occurred.
Carl is survived by: three brothers, Earnest J. Reid Suzuko of E. Syracuse, Paul E. Reid of Gloversville and Harry A. Reid of Loxahatchee, Florida; eight nieces and nephews, several grandnieces and grandnephews and several cousins.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Friday, May 13 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Crabbe officiating. Cremation took place at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to Lexington Center, 127 E. State St; Gloversville, NY 12078.
