Obituary of Lore Baer Koppel
Mrs. Lore Baer Koppel, 84 years old, of Ft. Plain, died Saturday at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. Mrs. Koppel was born December 25, 1926, in Durlach, Germany, daughter of Fred and Paula Strauss Baer. She came to the U. S. in 1938. Her family moved to Ft. Plain where she graduated from Ft. Plain High School. Lore attended Syracuse University and was a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Virginia. She returned to Ft. Plain in 1952 where she worked in the family business, The Ft. Plain Packing Co. Lore retired as Vice President when they closed the plant in 1987. She also managed Freebaer Farms of Palatine Bridge, NY established by her father.
She was a member of Congregation Sons of Israel Synagogue in Amsterdam and President of the Ft. Plain Scholarship Association. Lore was Chairman of the Montgomery County Republican Committee for 12 years. She was a delegate to two National Presidential Conventions, a member of the NYS Republican Committee and raised funds for the Republican effort. Lore was appointed by former Governor Pataki to the NYS Office of the Aging.
She married Leo Koppel on July 10, 1949 who survives. Also surviving are three daughters: Karen Rose Andrew Kaunitz of Jacksonville, Fla., Barbara Sue Timothy Pedley of Rye, NY, and Anita Baer Ralph Blackman of Arlington, VA; her son: Paul Ira Sheila Koppel of Latham, NY; her sister: Ellen Brendan Galvin of Truro, MA.; seven grandchildren: Lauren Elizabeth Pedley, Kate Baer Kaunitz, Nathaniel Mark Pedley, David Koppel Kaunitz, Max Baer Blackman, Mia Lillian Cicilia Blackman and Alexander Jacob Koppel; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Monday, May 16, 2011, at Congregations Sons of Israel Synagogue, 355 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with Rabbi Paul B. Silton officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery in Emerson, NJ on Tuesday at 2:00pm. The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 until 2:00pm at the Synagogue prior to the service.
