Obituary of Eleanor H. Walker

Eleanor Baker Walker, age 91, of Gloversville passed away on Sunday May 15, 2011 at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home in Gloversville. She was born in Gloversville, NY on October 19, 1919 the daughter of the late Michael and Goldie Smith Baker. On March 1, 1940, Eleanor married Cleveland Walker. They shared 52 years united in marriage until his passing on November 8, 1992. She attended Gloversville Schools and graduated from Gloversville High School in 1937. She was a 1938 graduate of the Gloversville Business School. She was employed as a purchasing clerk for 25 years in the office of MCA Manufacturing, Inc until her retirement in December of 1983. She was a member of the Bleecker Street Church of Christ. Eleanor was the church secretary for 10 years as well as former deaconess of the church. She was also a member of the Ida McGinnis Senior Citizens Club. Eleanor is survived by a sister, Winifred Baker of Gloversville, two nieces and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by two sisters Muriel Thompson, Dorothy Breeding as well as a brother, USAF Lt. Douglas H Baker who was reported missing in action during a mission over the North Sea in November 1943, during WWII. Funeral services will take place 1 pm Wednesday at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12 noon until 1 pm prior to the service.
