Obituary of Marjorie M. Palen

Marjorie M. Palen, 82, passed away Thursday at the River Ridge Living Center where she has been a resident since December of 2009. Since her childhood she was a resident of Hagaman, NY until moving to River Ridge Living Center. Born in Paterson, New Jersey on January 6, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Hector and Lillian Fisher Palen. Marjorie was a Graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She was first employed as a payroll supervisor for Mohasco Industries and later she worked for the North East Savings Bank in Amsterdam as a bank teller. Marjorie served on the Board of trustees for The First Hagaman United Methodist Church and for a time as their Financial Secretary. At one time she was a member of the Mohasco Women's Bowling Team. As a young women she enjoyed traveling by car to Florida and taking boat cruises to Bermuda. Survivors include a sister, June L. Bornt of Hagaman, NY; two nephews, James L. Bornt of Broadalbin, NY and Mark Palen of Alto, Georgia; a great niece, two great nephews and several cousins. Marjorie was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Palen. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011, at 12:00 noon, at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY with the Rev. Cynthia Leonard officiating. Burial will follow in Hagaman Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 11am to 12pm, on Monday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie's memory to the Montgomery S.P.C.A., PO Box 484, Amsterdam, NY 12010 or to The First Hagaman United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 368, Hagaman, NY 12086.
