Obituary of Walter C. Cummings

Mr. Walter C. Cummings, 87, of Currytown Road in Sprakers, NY passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. He was born July 2, 1923 in Cherry Valley, NY, the son of the late Marvin and Laura Lane Cummings. Walter was a life long resident of the area, and graduated from Sharon Springs Central School. He was an avid bowler and bowled in area leagues, he also enjoyed to golf. He was a former member of Kurly Q's Square Dance Club of Canajoharie. Walter was a woodworker and a stain glass worker, he was in business for 35 years with his brother, retiring in 1988. Walter proudly served many terms as president of the Lane Family Reunions. On October 15, 1955 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Wemple Cummings. After marriage, Walter and Betty moved to Florida for 11 years, then returned back to the area. Their union lasted a beautiful 55 years. His loving family includes his wife, Elizabeth Cummings of Sprakers, daughter Suzanne M. Aldi James of Palatine Bridge, son, Thomas W. Cummings Ann of Florissant, CO and grandchildren, Christopher Aldi, Kelsey Aldi, Maureen Cummings and Sam Cummings. He is also survived by a brother, Francis Cummings of Schenectady and sisters Fanny Jones of Ft. Plain, Elizabeth Tyler of Sharon Springs, and Bernice Garth of Mason City, IA. In addition to his parents, Walter is predeceased by his brothers, Arthur Cummings, Robert Cummings and Elmer Cummings, sisters Ruby Cummings and Ida Mae Cummings. Family and friends are invited to join a graveside service of remembrance that will take place Monday, June 6, 2011 at 12 PM at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda. Rev. Jerry Kaufman will preside. Memorial contributions may be made to Spence Chapin Children's Services or Wide Horizons for Children in care of the funeral home office.
