Obituary of Harry A. Hayes

Mr. Harry A. Hayes, age 94, of Gloversville, died Wednesday morning, June 1, 2011 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home, where he had resided since December. He was born July 8, 1916 in Gloversville, the son of the late Harry and Hazel Hayes. He served in the Navy during World War II. His employment included work as an automobile mechanic and as a foreman for many years at Karg Brothers Inc; Johnstown. He also served as the Town of Johnstown Constable for many years until this past year. Harry was an original organizer and lifetime member of the Berkshire Fire Dept. He was married October 31, 1936 to Mabel L. Johnson who died April 2, 1996. Survivors include a son, George R. Hayes and his companion Pam Durfee of Lasselsville; three grandchildren, Richard Hayes, George Hayes and Leanne Hayes; three great-grandchildren, Kyle Hayes, Michael Hart and Garret Hayes; and a great-great grandson, Dylan Hart. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Sandra Geer officiating. Interment with military honors will take place at Perth Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Berkshire Fire Dept; 1013 State Highway 29A, Gloversville, NY 12078.
