Obituary of Barbara E. Dickson
Barbara E. Nagle Dickson, 87, of Saratoga Road, passed away Thursday morning after a brief illness which she fought to the end like a true marine.
Born in Montague, Mass. On January 21, 1924, she was the last surviving child of the late Frederick H. and Helen Flynn Baker. A graduate of Becker Junior College in Worcester, Mass, she entered the US Marine Corps on her birthday in 1944. Barbara was a member of the Marine Corps band at Camp Le Jeune, NC and was later transferred to the Office Of Paymaster General USMC in Arlington, Va. Honorably discharged April 15, 1945, one of her final duties was to march in the funeral procession of President Franklyn D. Roosevelt. She was past commandant of the Holiday Detachment, MC League of New Port Richey, Fla. And received the Distinguished Citizens Award from the Dept. Of Florida USMC League. She was employed as a mortgage officer for the Albany Savings Bank s Schenectady office until she retired.
Married to Robert D. Nagle on August 30, 1947, he predeceased her April 17, 1969.
Barbara was an accomplished artist and also enjoyed needlework crafts.
She leaves her children; Kathleen Late Mac Squires of Greenwich, NY, Daniel Chris Nagle of Galway, Joseph G. Pamela Nagle of Scotia and Mary Michael Bilka of Niskayuna; grandchildren; Jill Rich Neste, James Nagle, Shannon Pete Coon, Adam Kaylee Palmer, Sarah Steven Slosek and Patrick Nagle; great grandchildren; Richard Neste III, Abigail and Ryan Neste as well as nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Monday June 6, from 4-7 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. A vigil prayer service will be held at 6:45 pm Monday at the funeral home conducted by Deacon Gary O Conner. Interment will take place Tuesday at 1:30 pm at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, or the Wesley Health Care Foundation both in care of the funeral home office, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
