Obituary of John A. Kovarovic
Mr. John A. Kovarovic age 94, passed away Friday June 3, 2011. He was born April 8, 1917 in Gloversville, son of the late John and Theresa Kovarick Kovarovic. Educated in Gloversville schools, Mr. Kovarovic served in the Navy during WW II as a Gunner's Mate aboard the US Finch, escorting supply ships in the Mediterranean. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Mr. Kovarovic returned to Gloversville and worked as a glove cutter and other related leather industry positions. During his career he had been employed at the former G. Levor Co., Thum Measuring, Adirondack Leather and retired from Perrella Glove Co.
Mr. Kovarovic was also a Gloversville police officer in the early 1950's. He enjoyed wood working and donated folk art mosaic to the Fulton County Museum. He was a former member of the VFW in Gloversville, Amalgamated Glove Workers Union and St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church of the Holy Spirit Church in Gloversville.
Survivors include his children: Sandra Ruffino Tony of Elba, N.Y., Jean Brewer Chuck of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Richard Kovarovic Barbara of Croton-on-Hudson.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Bryan Brewer of St. Petersburg, Fla., Richard J. Kovarovic and Brandon Kovarovic both of Croton-on-Hudson, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his wife Emily Herba Kovarovic whom he married November 10, 1943, a sister Theresa Kovarovic and a brother Joseph Kovarovic.
Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Tuesday at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 11 am to 12 noon prior to the service.
