Obituary of M. Eleanor Noeltner

M. Eleanor Noeltner, 85, former resident of Guy Park Avenue, passed away peacefully Saturday evening at St. Mary's Hospital. She was a resident at Mt. Loretto Nursing Home for the past 2 years and had resided at the Sanford Home for six years prior. Born in the Town of Glen, New York on March 19, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Earl A. and Hettie B. Voorhees Noeltner. Eleanor was educated in local schools later receiving her Bachelor of Science in Education from Geneseo State Teachers college and a Masters of Library Science from the College of Education in Albany. In 1947 she became the children's librarian at the Schenectady Library. Eleanor later was an elementary and high school librarian in three school districts followed by serving as the assistant librarian at the New York State Department of Commerce in Albany. After her retirement in 1981 she volunteered at the Horace J. Inman Senior Center and the Shirley J. Luck Senior Center in Johnstown in a Kazoo Instrumental Group; she also played the piano at the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital for the church services. Eleanor was a member of the Glen Reformed Church for 50 years and in 1989 she joined the Trinity Reformed Church in Amsterdam where she served as a Deacon until their closing when she returned to the Glen Reformed Church. Survivors include her brother Kenneth Noeltner of Glen, NY; a nephew Robert Bonnie Noeltner; three nieces, Linda Donald Bare, Betty George Whitney and Susan Jack Summerfield; a great niece; three great nephews; a great great nephew and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Edith Noeltner. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Glen Reformed Church, Route 161, Glen, NY with the Rev. Tim Alicki officiating. Burial will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Tribes Hill, NY. A calling hour will be held on Wednesday from 1 to 2 pm at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Eleanor's memory to the Glen Reformed Church, Route 161, Fultonville, NY 12072.
