Obituary of Ida V. Wassel
Ida V. Wassel, 99, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning at the Maplewood Manor in Ballston Spa with loving family at her side.
Born in Coxsackie, New York on Sept. 26, 1911 she was the last surviving child of the late Anthony and Anna Kisielis Vainauskas and lived in Hagaman most of her life. A home maker, Ida was a parishioner of the former St. Casimir's Roman Catholic Church. In her later years, she moved to Ballston Spa to be with her daughter and son in law and was a member of St. Mary's Church there. She loved to garden and canned many of her own vegetables. She also loved to sew and knit and crochet and made many beautiful items that she shared with family and friends. Ida was a former member of the American Lithuanian Auxiliary and St. Casimir's Seniors.
On Sept. 3, 1933 she was united in marriage to Charles Wassel Vasilauskas. He predeceased her on April 5, 1986. Also, her daughter in law Carol Wassel, brothers Benjamin and Stanley Vinosky and a sister Barbara Jakaitis have passed away.
Her loving family includes her daughter Sylvia and husband Lawrence DeLaurie of Ballston Spa, son Clifford Wassel and his wife Marian of Peck's Lake; grandchildren; Cheryl Wade Smith, Elise Michael Markham, Denise Smith, Jon Carrie DeLaurie, Kathryn Ostie, Terrence Kim Wassel and ElizabethTom Cross; great grandchildren; Peyton Smith, Taylyn Markham, Justin, Alayna, Julia Smith, Jacob and Ava DeLaurie, Kory Grange, Olivia and Evan Ostie, Addison and Travis Cross; nieces and nephews; Marion and Gary Jakaitis and family, Geraldine Pepe and family, Anthony and Ralph Rusilas and family.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Maplewood Manor especially A-1 for their care and concern during Ida's stay there.
Services are Wednesday at 10:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Mary's Church, 156 East Main Street Amsterdam. Fr. John Medwid, celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Casimir's Cemetery. A calling period will begin at 9:00 am Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home. Contributions may be made in Ida's name to the Shrine Of North American Martyrs in care of the funeral home office.
