Obituary of John P. Ulrich

Mr. John P. Ulrich, age 87, of Boynton Beach, Fl; formerly of Broadalbin and Amsterdam, died June 9, 2011 at Hospice of Palm Beach County, Gerstenberg Center, W. Palm Beach, Fl. He died on his deceased wife Helen's birthday, a birth date which Helen also shared with their surviving daughter, Tami. He was born March 11, 1924 in Scotia, NY, the son of Peter and Amelia Anderson Ulrich. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific theater of operations. His many business ventures included Ulrich Construction of Scotia, Commissioner of Roads and Streets for the Village of Scotia, Pine View Inn of Mechanicville, Surf Terrace Motel of Hollywood, Fl, Hotel Broadalbin from 1970 to 1978 and Trader John's Marina in Mayfield from 1972 to 1983. He was very active in the communities that he lived in throughout his lifetime, including the Republican clubs of Broadalbin, Mayfield and Fulton County, Mayfield Service Men's Club, Broadalbin American Legion Post #337 and life membership in Broadalbin V.F.W. Post #8690. He served as Commander of the American Legion Post in Dania, Fl in 1968. John was married on March 28, 1948 to Helen C. Johnson who died July 31, 2003. He is survived by: three children, John J. Ulrich of Albany, Lori E. Russo Bill of Gloversville and Tami Michalek Joseph of Mayfield; two sisters, Mary Lepp of Scotia and Elizabeth Piecyk of Schenectady; seven grandchildren, John E. Ulrich, Joseph B. Ulrich, Ryan Russo, Evan Russo, Allison Russo, Kyle Michalek and Garret Michalek; ten great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his companion of many years, Bridgett Milano of Amsterdam and also by his brother, Richard Ulrich. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 27 at Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St; Broadalbin. Interment with Military Honors will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 28 at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
