Obituary of Leonard M. Richardson

Leonard M. Richardson, 72, of Starkville, NY, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 11, 2011 at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born March 22, 1939 in Albany, NY, the son of the late Willis and Martha Kolakowski Richardson. Leonard attended schools in Granville, VT he later earned his GED while in the Army. He also obtained a Business degree while enlisted. He was enlisted in the United States Army in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1960 . He was proud to have served in the end of the Korean War and that he received a Purple Heart for the rescue of a fellow soldier. He was married to Linda Carman Richardson on June 27, 1975, they shared a beautiful 35 years of marriage. After being married Leonard and Linda moved from Westerlo, NY to Ft. Plain. Leonard drove truck until he and his wife began to farm at their home. Along with farming, he enjoyed being outdoors, working with his Amish friends and just keeping busy around his home. Leonard was a sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Mets and the Giants play but most of all he loved to watch wrestling. He is a family man who very much enjoyed the company of his children and grand children, he was always involved in his children's lives always thoughtful of their needs and contributing to their lives as much as possible. His loving family includes his wife Linda Richardson, children Thomas Richardson of Germany, Michael Richardson of Starkville, Teri Mark Barton of Starkville, Chris Richardson of Ft. Plain, David Wendy Richardson of Ft. Plain, Cheryl Lord of Troy, Donna Christian Blanchard of Ft. Plain and step son Bruce Garlock of Ft. Plain. His beloved grandchildren Sabastian, Anja, Kerstin, Cory, Kyle, Jason, Sarah, Natalie, Cassy, Steven, Kristy, Haleigh, Cameron, and Carolynn and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Kenneth Richardson and sisters Lora Ricketts, Patricia Sykla and Georgia Hallenbeck. Several extended family members and friends also survive. Funeral services for Leonard will be on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 11AM at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday evening June 14, 2011 from 4 PM until 7 PM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Gerald B.H Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery following the service.
