Obituary of Marilyn L. Sofka

Mrs. Marilyn L. Sofka of Gloversville, passed away Thursday at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Gloversville on March 29, 1936, daughter of the late Allen and Florence Rorick Fraiser. Mrs. Sofka was a 1954 graduate of Gloversville High School and employed at the former Uni Manufacturing as a press operator. She also had previously worked at F. W. Woolworth Co. and as an election inspector. Marilyn enjoyed casino visits, shopping and the N.Y. Yankees. A long time member of the North Main Street United Methodist Church and the choir, Marilyn also volunteered regularly for various church functions. She enjoyed her family, her community and her many friendships. Marilyn will be sadly missed. Survivors include her children: Linda Gavrilcukas Kenneth and Fred Sofka Jr. Suellen both of Gloversville. She is also survived by three brothers; Calvin Fraiser of Malone, Ronald Fraiser Gloria and Marvin Fraiser both of Gloversville. Marilyn also leaves a sister Elaine Schrum Art of Johnstown, two grandchildren Jessica Sofka and Fred Sofka III, several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a sister at birth Angel Fraiser. Marilyn was also pre-deceased by her husband Fred M. Sofka Sr. whom she married June 30, 1956. A prayer service will be held 8:45 am Monday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville and at 9:30 am a funeral service will be conducted at North Main Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Christopher Hamm, Pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
