Obituary of Allen Pecora

"Jimmie" Allen Pecora, 82, of 62 Orchard Street, Canajoharie, NY died peacefully on Friday, June 17, 2011 at Bassett Medical Center surrounded by her family. Born on October 28, 1928 in Hollywood, Florida she was the daughter of the late Herman and Lois Griner Allen. Jimmie grew up and attended schools in GA, FL and PA schools graduating from Beaver, PA. She later went on to attend Clarion State Teachers College in Pennsylvania. It was there that she met the love of her life, Frank J. Pecora whom she married on September 3, 1949. For over 25 years, Jimmie taught elementary education to the children of Canajoharie at the former East Hill Schools. She specialized in reading, and enjoyed supervising students from the College of Saint Rose who were interested in teaching as a career. She was a 50 year member of the Colonial Club, a girl scout leader and enjoyed several other memberships in women's organizations. Above all she loved her family and her church. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her family includes her husband of 61 years, Frank J. Pecora; two daughters, Lisa A. Pecora of Woodstock, NY and Lois A. Pecora and her long time companion Mel Overstreet of Perryville, MD; one sister, Cynthia Cloughley of Aliquippa, PA; one brother, Carl West of Havre, MT; and several nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her sisters, Lois J. Roberts and Lisabeth Kraynie. Funeral services will commence on Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 10 o'clock at St. John's- St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 143 Church Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. Zach Labagh officiating. Interment will follow in the Ames Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call this evening, Monday June 20, 2011 from 4 until 8p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to her beloved church, for the Sunday school.
