Obituary of Harold J. Levering

Mr. Harold J. Levering, 91 years old, of the Town of Glen, died Monday at Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown. He was born December 21, 1919 in Maurice, Iowa, the son of Abe and Winnie Van Olst Levering. Mr. Levering served in the U.S. Army during WW2. He was stationed in Holland, France, Germany, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. While in Germany he met his future wife, the former Mariele Huber, whom he married on June 22, 1947. In 1964 they bought a farm in the Town of Glen and operated it for many years. Harold had also been employed by the Ford Motor Co. in Green Island, NY. Survivors, in addition to his wife of 64 years, are his sister Vera Brower of Maurice, Iowa, his sister-in-law Hilde Henninger, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Friday, July 8, 2011, at the Fonda Reformed Church. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville, NY. There will be no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, Fultonville.
