Obituary of Garry R. Wilder
Garry R. Wilder, Sr., 66, of Gloversville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Mountain Valley Hospice with his loving family by his side.
He was born October 6, 1944 in Gloversville, the son of the late Clarence and Edith Acker Wilder.
Garry was employed at various local leather mills.
On July 2, 1966, he was united in marriage to Connie Lesperance, who survives. Together they shared over forty five years of marriage.
Garry was a member of the Berkshire Volunteer Fire Department for several years and served as Assistant Fire Chief for a time.
He enjoyed playing Bingo and cards and watching old western and Tarzan movies. He loved to fish, hunt, bowl and play softball. He will be very sadly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his beloved wife, Connie Wilder of Gloversville, survivors include a son, Garry Wilder, Jr. of Gloversville; three daughters: Michelle Springer Phil of Johnstown, Wendy VanAlstyne Jason of Gloversville and Darlene Rorick Ron of Johnstown; eleven grandchildren: Dustin, Zachary, Nathaniel, Vanessa, Damin, Ryan, Anthony, Nick, Alex, Kyle and Cheyanne; a brother, James Wilder Della of Gloversville; two sisters: Marilyn Murray of Gloversville and MaryLou Pantelone Joseph of Gloversville; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved dogs Buffy and Baby.
In addition to his parents, Garry was predeceased by five brothers: Wesley, William, Don, Dick and Ron; and a sister, Elaine Gergich.
Family and friends are invited and may call Sunday, July 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078 where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with the Reverend Dr. R.W. Williams presiding. Cremation will take place at ParkView Crematorium in Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Garry's memory to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd. Loudonville, NY 12211 or to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue Gloversville, NY 12078.
