Obituary of Charles W. Christman

Mr. Charles W. Christman, 80, of Storrie Street, Amsterdam died peacefully on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the River Ridge Living Centre following a battle with lung cancer. Born in the Town of Root, NY on December 2, 1930 he was last of nine children born to the late Henry and Marcia Vosburgh Christman. A lifelong area resident, Charlie worked as a welder for most of his life. Most notable was his family business, C.W. Christman and Sons Welding. He served proudly with the Armed Forces from 1952-1960. Charlie is survived by his wife , the former Danine Hojohn whom he married on September 14, 1956; four children, Charles Christman, Jr., Michael Chrsitman and Susan McCarthy all of Amsterdam, and Terri Szala of Herkimer, NY; three sisters, Evelyn "Babe" Mahr of Canajoharie, NY, Irene Austin of Fort Plain, NY and Alice Tracey of South Carolina; nine grandchildren, Samantha, Sheanna, Jacqueline, Katie, Nichole, Chard, Daniel, Jessica and Kimberly; many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers Roy, John, Delbert, Harry, an infant sister, Helen and his son Donald Edward Christman. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Relatives and friends are invited and may call one hour prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock. Interment will follow the funeral service at 1:30p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Stratton VA Medical Hospital.
