Obituary of Karl F. Zessin

Mr. Karl F. Zessin, age 56, of Gloversville, was unexpectedly stricken on Tuesday morning, July 19, 2011 and later died at Albany Medical Center. He was born January 10, 1955 in Albany, the son of the late Charles and Mary Mellen Zessin. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War for four years. A resident of the Albany area for most of his life, he moved to Gloversville nine years ago. He worked as a service technician at Thompson & Johnson Equipment Company in Albany, where he was employed the last eight years. Karl enjoyed his model railroad collection and also camping in Warrensburg. He was a former member of the Albany Elks Lodge. Survivors include: his wife, Tammy A. MacFarlane Zessin, whom he married on May 25, 2003; two sisters, Susan Vona of Albany and Edna Madeline of Valatie; a niece, Wendy Terrell of Alabama; three step-children, Thomas John "TJ" McGillis of Puerto Rico, Mindy Sue McGillis of Gloversville and Heidi Buanno of Gloversville; and three step-grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 24 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. A private graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family at Graceland Cemetery, Albany. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd; Loudonville, NY 12211.
