Obituary of Cady W. Staley
Mr. Cady W. "Pete" Staley, 63, of Bulls Head Road, Town of Florida, died suddenly on Monday, July 25, 2011 at his home. Born in Amsterdam, NY on December 25, 1947 he was the son of the late Cady Staley and Wretha Burke.
A lifelong area resident, Pete was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. In 1966 at the age of 18 he went to work as a Union Iron Worker which was his passion. He was a member of Local #12 and worked at various companies including AB Steel, Cardona and Sons and DA Collins. He retired in 2002 after a long career, a continued to work privately. Also in 1966 he joined the National Guard, Serving in Company A, 3rd BN, 1st Infantry for several years until he was honorably discharged. He was also the proprietor of Pete's Restaurant in Minaville, NY.
Although Pete had a strong work ethic, he also enjoyed socializing with friends, gardening and relaxing in his hammock under the tree in his yard with his dogs. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was predeceased in death his parents; step father, Fred Hirschfield; and his "second" mother, Melva D. Rose.
Survivors include his children, Billy Staley of Saratoga, NY and Connie Ziskin and her husband David of Amsterdam, NY; four brothers, Albert Staley and his wife Liz of Town of Florida, Mike Staley of Perth, NY, Frank Staley and his wife Emily of Town of Florida, and Steve Staley of Johnstown, NY; five grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Hastings, Tommy Ziskin, Mia and Aidan Staley; his former wife, Nancy Frey Mattas; two very special buddies, Lucas and Brianna Coon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Friday, July 29, 2011 from 4 until 7p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 10a.m. at the Chuctanunda Cemetery in Minaville, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Montgomery County SPCA or to the charity of one's choice.
