Obituary of Elizabeth Anne Petty

Mrs. Elizabeth Anne Petty, 95, formerly of Franklin Park, Canajoharie, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on November 30, 1915 in Corning, NY she was the last surviving child of the late Thomas and Olive Mary Egginton Deegan, Sr. and moved to Great Neck, Long Island, NY in 1939. Anne graduated from North Side High School and in 1939 moved to Great Neck, NY where she was a Department Manager for Gertz Department Store for 21 years. She was also the past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Great Neck. Following her retirement, Anne moved to Canajoharie where she was a former member of St. Peter's & Paul's Roman Catholic Church and its Altar Rosary Society. She also was the proprietor of Petty Knick Knack Gifts for several years. On October 6, 1940 she was united in marriage to J. Arthur Petty. That union lasted 52 years until his passing on July 23, 1992. She was also predeceased by her brothers, John, Richard, Gerorge, Thomas and Philip Deegan; her sisters, Susan Deegan and Ethel Palinkas; one grandson Paul LaCoppola; and recently her son, Richard Petty. Survivors include her son, James Petty and his wife Lisa of Fort Plain, NY; two daughters, Katherine LaCoppola and her husband Fred of St. Johnsville, NY and Carol LaCoppola of Latham, NY; a daughter in law, Helen Petty of Lima, Peru; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 10 o'clock at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY with Rev. Dennis Murphy as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited and may call this evening, Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 4 until 7p.m. at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 60 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY where her arrangements have been entrusted.
