Amelia Fuller

Obituary of Amelia A. Fuller

Amelia A. Fuller, age 82, of Amsterdam passed away on Monday August 8, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. She was born in Gloversville, NY on November 16, 1928 the daughter of the late Matteo and Maria Lauritano DiMaio. She began working in the local glove shops during the early 1940's, and continued to do so throughout the 1950's and 60's part time while working as a full time press operator at Decca Records. Amelia also worked at the Fulton County Infirmary from 1969-75 as a nursing assistant. Mia, as she preferred to be called, enjoyed working and being around people, especially her family. The third oldest of eleven children, she loved her brothers and sisters, spoke fondly of them, and often had many humorous stories to share with her grandchildren about her younger years with them. She enjoyed 24 years of marriage with her first husband, Leon M. Da Corsi, with whom she has two children, Claude and L.J. In 1972 Leon passed after a long illness. In 1974 she met and courted Wendell Fuller, marrying on Valentine's Day 1975 and remained together until his passing in 2009. Her strong faith helped carry her through her life's celebrations and difficult times. Mia had a deep appreciation for the arts and music. Over the years she created many oil paintings, and used various other media such as watercolor, charcoal, and pencil. She enjoyed the swing sound of the 40's, doo-wop of the 50's, and traditional Italian music. She maintained a daily journal of her thoughts and also authored many poems, some of which were published. Mia found joy in most everyone and was content to be in her home to share a meal with family or friends, or to play a game or two of "dimes", or just relax and do a crossword puzzle. We will miss her deeply. We would like to thank the staff at St. Mary's Hospital and Mia's personal physician for their care during her stay. We would especially like to thank the immediate family who spent so much quality time with Mia over the years and during these last couple of weeks. You made her life so much more enjoyable! We love you Ma, Grandma Fuller, Mamma Mia! Amelia is survived by her two sons: Claude E. Da Corsi Sr. Mary of Auburn, WA, Leon J. L.J.
