Obituary of Martha M. Rowley
Mrs. Martha M. Rowley, 75 years old, of Palatine Bridge, died Thursday at Palatine Nursing Home, with her daughters at her side. Mrs. Rowley was born July 14, 1936 in Roanoke, W. Virginia, a daughter of William and Matilda Smith Garrett. She moved to the Amsterdam area in 1945 and attended Amsterdam Schools.
Mrs. Rowley was employed by Amsterdam restaurants including Carmel's Diner, Mario's Comedy Inn and Pepe's Restaurant. She then owned and operated The Matilda Line, an interior design business located in Amsterdam, retiring in 2006.
Mrs. Rowley was a member of The Calvary Assembly of God Church in Amsterdam. She had an excellent eye for design and fashion which aided her greatly in her business. Martha loved her family.
She was married to James Canfield, Sr. She then married Edward Rowley who predeceased her. Martha is survived by her daughters: Deborah Al Mills of Clifton Park and Marie Gary Oeser of Palatine Bridge, a son: James Canfield, Jr. of Perth, her brother: William Garrett of Siena Vista, California, her grandchildren; Tracy Canfield, Scott, Steven and David Sayles, Jocelyn, Emily and Garrett Oeser, and 2 great grand daughters: Shelby Jasewicz and Abigail Sayles. She was also predeceased by her grand daughter Jessica Canfield. Martha has donated her earthly remains to the Albany Medical College. Private funeral services will be held at Pine Gove Cemetery, in Tribes Hill, at the convenience of the family.
