Obituary of Russell F. Smith
Russell F. Smith, age 86, of Gloversville passed away on Monday August 29, 2011 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville, NY.
He was born in Suffern, NY on October 23, 1924 the son of the late Russell and Bertha Pierce Smith.
Russell proudly served his country during WWII in the Battle of the Bulge with the United States Army.
On April 15, 1971, Russell married Mae C. Frey Smith. They have shared 40 years united in marriage.
Russell was a member of the Bleecker Community Church in Bleecker, NY. He owned and operated Smith Electric for many years. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post 2973. Russell enjoyed fishing as well as building and using ham radios. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Russell is survived by his wife of 40 years, Mae C. Smith of Gloversville, 7 daughters: Pamela Mihok of Wayne, NJ, Amber Fitzgerald Kevin of Suffern, NY, Yvonne LoFaso Conrad Francesconi of Tobyhanna, PA, Karol Faasse of Greers Ferry, AR, Beverly Cooper Leland of Garland, NC, Barbara Lazicki of Gloversville, NY and Valerie Finch Kenneth of Suffern, NY.
Additional survivors include: 13 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a brother, David Lockyer.
In addition to his parents, Russell was preceded in death be two brothers: William Lockyer and Ronald Lockyer.
Family and friends are invited and may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday September 1, 2011 at the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday September 2, 2011 at the Bleecker Community Church, 503 County Highway 112, Gloversville. Interment will follow at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Russell to the Bleecker Community Church, 148 County Highway 109, Broadalbin, NY 12025 or to St. Jude's Children's Cancer Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
