Obituary of Dorothy Seyfried

Dorothy Seyfried, 77, Sacandaga Road, passed away Tuesday morning at the Albany Medical Center after being stricken. Born March 15, 1934, in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of Howard J. and Marion Allen Ehmke. Dorothy was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch high school in Amsterdam. She was a homemaker with five children. She was first employed as a waitress at the Pattersonville thruway reststop, owned and operated a fitness shop on Market Street in Amsterdam and a ceramic business out of her home. Dorothy enjoyed sewing and crafting. She was employed as a secretary for FMCC in Johnstown from which she retired. Dorothy was a Girl Scout Troop leader for a number of years at Perth School and was an active member of the Tri-County Twirlettes as well as their seamstress. Dorothy loved camping and was the oldest member at the McMurray's Boat Livery, where she spent many fond years. On March 17, 1962, she married John Seyfried Jr. who passed away January 26, 2010. Survivor's include son, Bryon Seyfried Thersa of Fort Johnson; daughters, Kathy Cox Mark of Kountze, TX, and Judy Powers Duane of Broadalbin, NY; one brother Howard Ehmke, Jr. of Mayfield; a sister Eleanor Dufel of Florida; grandchildren, Richard, Christopher, Katelyn, Ryan, Jessica, Allison, and Garrick; a great grandson Drake; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011, at 11 AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Cynthia Leonard officiating. Burial will take place in Green Hill Cemetery in Amsterdam. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's memory to the American Heart Association, 440 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
