Obituary of Carol L. Smullen
Carol L. Smullen, 76, of Mayfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home with her loving family at her side.
She was born at home in Riceville, NY on November 18, 1941 to parents Clyde L. Johnson and Blanche Dingman Johnson. She graduated from Mayfield Central School in 1959. Carol worked as a secretary at Mohawk Cabinet, Shine's and Mayfield Central School. She was a founder of the first Mayfield Fireman's Auxiliary. Her interests included shopping with the "Golden Girls" Marilyn Johnson and Donna Ellithorpe and attending the Saratoga horse races with Pat, Jan, Sandy, Jean and Karen. She loved playing the piano and played on WENT radio as an 8 year old girl.
On June 17, 1961 Carol married Gary T. Smullen who survives and also lives in Mayfield. Also surviving are her three children, Geoffrey Smullen (Gail), Michelle Quinn (Kurt) and Christopher Smullen; two grandchildren, Allison-Rae Smullen and Laura Smullen; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, also by a sister, Virginia Morrison; and a brother, Vernon Richardson.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 14 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville. The Rev. Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant.
Interment will follow at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown.
