Obituary of Emma L. Brooks

Emma L. (Pavlicheck) Brooks, 104, of Mayfield, New York passed away peacefully on June 20, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones.

Emma graduated from Canajoharie High School with the class of 1938. She spent summers working at Sherman's in Caroga lake, where she met her future husband, Charles Brooks, of Gloversville NY.

They married on October 14th 1939, and had one daughter, Charleen. They spent 49 wonderful years together, until his passing on August 29, 1988. Emma was also preceded in passing by their daughter, Charleen on October 14, 2018.

In 1945, the family moved to the Brooks Family Farm in Mayfield, which was established, and had been in Charles's family since 1857.

Though there was already some livestock on the farm, Emma changed the way the farm ran and created a business by raising calves, and adding more cows to the farm through the years. Emma was a lover of all dogs, but she especially loved German Shepherds, which she utilized to help herd the cattle between fields. When her dogs weren't working, they kept Emma company while her husband worked overnight.

She was an avid reader of all books, loved gardening and sewing, was well versed in current events, and even knowledgeable about social media. Whenever she faced a challenge in her life, be it a new appliance or a broken one, a health issue, or anything she was generally interested in learning about, Emma would take the time to educate herself on the matter, and face the challenge head-on. She was extremely active around her home, keeping herself as busy as possible, even if it sometimes led her into trouble.

Emma's loving family includes her granddaughter, Mary Jo (Jim) and her daughter, Jennifer; her grandson, Mark (Trish) and their son Mathew; as well as several nieces and great-nieces in the Utica area.

Emma will be missed by many people throughout the community. She was extremely grateful to each and every person who has helped her though the years, and equally grateful that they have extended their helping hands to her granddaughter. Her words of wisdom will live on in those she imparted them to for years to come.

Family and friends are invited, and may call on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 10:00AM until 10:45AM at the Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. Committal prayers will follow the calling period in the Broadalbin Mayfield Rural Cemetery with Father Jun Segura presiding, where Emma will be laid to rest with Charles.
